Peak Summer (May–August)

  • Park in shade at all times — never in direct sunlight

Monsoon (July–September)

  • Dry the bike and especially the charging port thoroughly after rain riding

The charging habits that protect your battery most

Charge to 80–90%, not 100%, for daily use

High impact

The last 10–20% of charging puts the most chemical stress on cells. Keeping maximum charge at 80–90% extends cycle life by 20–30% compared to always charging to 100%.

Never discharge below 20%

High impact

Deep discharge damages cells permanently. Many Pakistani riders push until the bike cuts off — this is the fastest way to destroy battery capacity. Charge before hitting 20%.

Avoid storing at 100% for more than 48 hours

Medium impact

If you are not riding tomorrow, discharge to 60% before putting the bike away. Storing at 100% accelerates 'calendar aging' — capacity loss even without using the battery.

Time your charging to ambient temperature

In summer, charging at 5:00–8:00 AM when ambient temperature is 25–30°C is far gentler on the battery than charging at 14:00 when it is 45°C in the shade.

Multiple charge interruptions within an hour can cause slight stress on the BMS. If power cuts frequently (load shedding), let the battery sit until a longer power window — do not plug in and out repeatedly.

Keeping the battery physically healthy

Clean contacts monthly

Use a dry cloth to clean the battery terminals and charging port. Dirty contacts increase resistance, causing heat during charging — which accelerates degradation.

Check for physical damage

Inspect the battery casing monthly for cracks, dents, or deformation. A cracked case can allow moisture in. A dented or deformed battery may indicate internal damage — do not charge it.

Secure the battery properly

Make sure the battery is properly locked/latched to the bike frame. A loose battery vibrates on rough Pakistani roads, which can damage internal cell connections over time.

Protect from water jets

During monsoon or when cleaning the bike, avoid directly spraying the battery or its connector with water. A damp cloth for cleaning the battery exterior is safer.

Apply dielectric grease to connectors

Every 6 months, apply a small amount of dielectric grease to metal connector pins. This prevents oxidation and ensures low-resistance electrical contact.

Transport carefully

If transporting the bike on a vehicle, the battery should be removed and carried separately to prevent mechanical shock damage. This is especially important for lithium batteries on rough routes.

What happens if I leave my e-bike battery fully charged for weeks?

Storing at 100% state of charge for extended periods causes a form of stress called 'calendar aging'. Over weeks at 100%, cell capacity slowly degrades. For storage over 2 weeks, discharge to 40–60% first. This is the most commonly ignored tip and one of the biggest causes of premature capacity loss in Pakistan.

Can I charge my e-bike battery via a UPS/inverter during load shedding?

Yes, in most cases. A UPS with a minimum 600W output capacity can charge a standard e-bike charger. The charger handles the AC-to-DC conversion — as long as your UPS delivers stable 220V AC, the battery charges normally. Avoid charging from a cheaply modified square-wave inverter, which may not produce clean AC and can affect charger longevity.
