Is an e-bike faster than a petrol motorcycle in Pakistan?

Petrol motorcycles (125cc–150cc) typically reach 90–110 km/h top speed. Government scheme e-bikes have an 80–100 km range with top speeds of 45–80 km/h depending on the model. In city traffic — which dominates Pakistani commuting — the difference in top speed is irrelevant. E-bikes can often move faster than petrol bikes in congested traffic because they accelerate well from standstill and fit through gaps more easily.

Do e-bikes need registration in Pakistan like motorcycles?

Yes. Electric bikes require MTMIS registration through the Excise department, the same as petrol motorcycles. You receive a number plate and registration document. Registration for an e-bike costs PKR 3,000–8,000 depending on province and engine equivalent class. The process is identical to registering a petrol bike — bring your CNIC, purchase receipt (Form 29), and payment.

What happens to an e-bike during Karachi or Lahore load shedding?

Load shedding is a real concern. If your battery is low and scheduled load shedding begins at the same time you need to charge, you will need to wait.
