What Is New

What is different about the September 2026 Punjab e-bike scheme

Zero down payment — CM overruled the proposal for a Rs 14,000 advance

Earlier scheme designs had included a down payment requirement of Rs 14,000 (or similar). CM Maryam Nawaz rejected this at the September 2026 review meeting and directed that the September phase open with zero down payment. This is a significant change from previous rounds and makes the scheme accessible to students who could not afford a lump sum.

LiFePO4 batteries replace older lithium-ion chemistry

The September 2026 scheme specifies LiFePO4 (lithium iron phosphate) batteries across all scheme bikes. These are safer (no thermal runaway / fire risk), last 2,000+ charge cycles, and degrade more slowly in Pakistan's heat. Earlier scheme phases used standard Li-ion packs that some recipients found needed replacement after 18–24 months.

Free helmet, safety rod and 2-day training included

Every approved applicant receives a full-face helmet, a rear safety rod and mandatory two-day riding safety training at no extra cost. This addresses a safety gap in earlier phases where new riders received bikes without riding instruction. Transport Secretary Imran Sikandar Baloch specifically confirmed these as standard inclusions.

Covers all 36 districts of Punjab — rural and urban equally

The September 2026 phase applies across all 36 Punjab districts. Rural students are specifically included in priority quotas, ensuring the scheme is not limited to Lahore and other major cities. This matches the 2024–2025 expansion that added all district colleges.

How Selection Works

PITB ballot — how winners are picked if applications exceed 125,000

1

Applications collected at bikes.punjab.gov.pk

The portal accepts applications from eligible students across all 36 Punjab districts from September 4, 2026 onwards.

2

Applications verified by PITB

Punjab Information Technology Board cross-checks CNIC data, enrolment details, learner's permit, and domicile against government databases automatically.

3

If demand exceeds 125,000 quota — e-ballot

PITB runs a computerised random ballot. The ballot is transparent and computerised, not manual. There is no way to influence or buy a ballot result — anyone claiming to offer a paid ballot selection is a scammer.

4

Priority quotas within the ballot

Female students, rural applicants, and financially disadvantaged students have reserved quotas — meaning a proportion of the 125,000 slots is set aside for these groups before the open ballot runs.

5

Unsuccessful applicants kept on record

If you are not selected in this ballot, you remain registered for future phases — you do not need to reapply from scratch.

⚠️ Scam warning — protect yourself

Every time a major government scheme opens, scammers appear on Facebook, WhatsApp and YouTube offering "guaranteed selection", "fast-track applications", or "agent services" for a fee.

  • The only official application portal is bikes.punjab.gov.pk — no other website can submit on your behalf.
  • Application is completely free — no one can charge you for submitting an application.
  • The PITB ballot is computerised and random — no agent or middleman can influence it.
  • If anyone asks for money to process your application or guarantee selection, they are running a scam.
  • Report fraud to the Punjab Police helpline: 15 or to cybercrime.gov.pk.

Common Questions

Punjab e-bike scheme September 2026 — FAQs

How many e-bikes are available in the CM Punjab September 2026 scheme?

More than 125,000 electric bikes are available in this phase of the CM Punjab E-Bike Scheme, announced September 2, 2026 and opened for applications September 4, 2026. This is one of the largest single-phase e-bike distributions in Pakistan's history. Multiple credible sources — ARY News, Aaj TV, LHR Times, Daily Qudrat — confirm the 125,000+ figure. If applications exceed this quota, PITB conducts a computerised e-ballot.

What is the monthly payment for the Punjab e-bike scheme in September 2026?

The monthly installment is approximately Rs 3,000 per month over a 24-month period. There is no down payment — CM Maryam Nawaz specifically directed that no upfront payment be charged. All markup (interest) on the loan is paid by the Punjab Government: you repay only the principal in equal monthly installments. Total repayment over 24 months is approximately Rs 72,000 — the bike's subsidised cost to you.

Why did CM Maryam Nawaz waive the down payment for September 2026?

CM Maryam Nawaz rejected the down payment requirement when reviewing the scheme's design, stating that low-income students often cannot afford an upfront lump sum even if they can manage monthly payments. Removing the down payment widens access to students from all economic backgrounds, not just those who have savings. Insurance, registration and the helmet were also included free for the same reason.

What type of battery does the Punjab scheme e-bike use?

The bikes provided under the September 2026 CM Punjab scheme use LiFePO4 (lithium iron phosphate) batteries. LiFePO4 is safer than older lithium-ion (Li-ion) chemistries — it does not catch fire or explode when damaged or overcharged. It also has a longer cycle life: 2,000+ charge cycles vs 500–1,000 for standard Li-ion. This means the battery will typically last the full 24-month loan term and several years beyond without significant degradation.

Can female students get an e-bike for free under this scheme?

For the September 2026 opening, the scheme structure is zero down payment with Rs 3,000/month for all students (male and female). Earlier phases of the CM scheme had a 'free' provision for female students (zero down payment + waived installments under certain conditions) — check the official bikes.punjab.gov.pk portal for the exact September 2026 terms for female students, as the conditions may have been updated.
